City of Greater Geelong
To help them understand their General Environmental Duty (GED) and Duty to Manage (DtM) obligations, City of Greater Geelong council required an environmental site assessment (ESA) to be undertaken for a public reserve area known to be a former limestone quarry and part of a closed landfill site (known as Seagull Paddock).
Out-Task Environmental won the request for tender (RFT) to undertake the closed landfill ESA (with the scope of work including a site history review, soil and groundwater investigation and landfill gas risk assessment), which successfully demonstrated, through multiple lines of evidence, that the site represents a low risk to human health and the environment (even though the site is defined as contaminated land).
Council successfully used this information to inform a divestment strategy and initiate a planning scheme amendment (PSA) application to re-zone the local area to facilitate redevelopment for a non-sensitive use.
Out-Task Environmental provided clear, easy to understand advice in relation to contamination of a former landfill site. Richard communicated well with frequent updates and advised of appropriate next steps.”
